It’s in Black and White

So, who has been carrying on with black and white looks this season? I’d love to see some of those looks in action - post them to the Fat Chic flickr group (fellow bloggers, if you’d like to join, please do!) And if you dare to wear all white, I’ll send you a hug! I love it when people defy conventions about what plus sizes “should” and “should not” wear!

Dressy and Bright

I’m still seeing prints here and there for plus sizes, and they’re getting to be more OK, or maybe I’m just more OK with them. I’m also seeing some winter intros of brighter colors - a great pick me up for those of us stuck in a landscape of rain and snow, many of which pair well with a leopard print umbrella (I’m thinking of one an old college roommate stole.)

I’m not sure what the standard name for the above dress is - to me it’s what I think of when I just think “dress” without additional labeling terms. I like the cut, but as always, I get a complex about the shoes.

Outer Accessories

While Making It Big hasn’t been received all that well by Fat Chic readers, I keep having high hopes for them and I think they are in their way paying attention while doing their best to stay true to their own goals and already established clientele. They are among the very few plus clothiers that really expand into the very large sizing, fitting women with waists up to 75 inches. Someone needs to serve that market, and I’m glad that they do; unfortunately, at that point, a garment fitting at all matters possibly more than style. Since my main criteria for giving a business attention is showing signs that they genuinely care about their customers, I am choosing to give them attention - and pointing out some of their stuff that I think might actually be usable, especially since they have stepped up in fun ways in the accessories department.

Underneath it all…plus size panties

≡ Category: Lingerie |1 Comment

I am a fan of Cacique brand intimates, theĀ  Lane Bryant lingerie offshoot, because along with fantastically well-fit bras, they have made the first panties I have ever owned that are ride-down free. This summer it left my quite comfortable to wear skirts and dresses, because it helped me avoid accidentally re-enacting one of those portraits of women in daily situations who suddenly had dropped panties.

Even so, I’ve always got my eye out for alternatives - particularly boxer briefs. I’ve tried some Just My Size versions from last year, and frankly, I’m not that thrilled with them. Too much ventilation for my comfort. But the Jessica London version I’m considering has potential - I can wear it under skirts or pants, it has a tummy-control aspect and I don’t need to be overly concerned about anyone’s modesty besides my own.

I’m always on the hunt for good boxer briefs. Sexy lingerie has its place, but some days, I just want something I know won’t fall off.
